Obsession for Numbers 7 and 11 published on 7-11-11 at 7:11 AM
Do you have an obsession for the number 11?. I have a cousin in the Philippines who is obsessed with this number, that he is giving a party this coming November 11,2011at 11:11 AM for only 111 guests to celebrate his 65 birthday (6+5=11). He will served 11 dishes starting with soup, salad, an appetizer and 7 main dishes and dessert his birthday cake (with 11 candles). I also have a niece who will turn 11 years old this coming November 11, 2011. Her party will have 11 of her school mates as guests and again the luncheon will start at exactly 11:11 AM. So what is the obsession on number 11? Here's some interesting information from the Web.
1. Mathematics
The number eleven is the sixth prime number. The base numeric number system lends itself to some interesting peculiarities as relates to the number eleven.
Base 10 for example:
(2 digits) 11 x 11 = 121
(6 digits) 111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
(9 digits) 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321
Base 16 (hexadecimal) for example:
(2 digits) 11 x 11 = 121
(6 digits) 111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
(9 digits) 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321
2.Gambling
Blackjack players love the number seven and eleven. It usually means time to double down, but not always.
Dice players love the number eleven. On the come-out roll, it’s as good as the number seven. Do not ask the crap dealers how to bet 11 the hard way.
The number eleven is a popular lottery number. This results in the per-person payouts being a little below average when eleven is one of the winning numbers.
The number eleven is a popular keno number. One wonders if the casinos and slot machine manufacturers make use of that fact.
3. Historical
The Great Blue Norther of 11/11/11: "One-hundred years ago, November 11th, 1911: The Great Blue Norther descended upon America. The day started fine; there were even record highs for that time of year. Then it all changed; temperatures began to drop. Within the space of ten minute: the temperature dropped 40 to 50 degrees; by midnight a 66 degree temperature drop was recorded. There were dust storms, thunderstorms, tornadoes, and blizzards. Over 300 deaths were reported."
In the interests of full disclosure: NOAA.gov reports that sudden 50 degree temperature drops, though unusual, are not that rare.
The Great Blue Norther acquired its name not from the extreme temperature changes, but from the accompanying weather phenomena.
See the following video for details:
*Note: July this year have 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens only once in 823 years. Lastly, adding up the last two digits of the year you were born and the age you will be this year is always equal to 111 Try it! Interesting!
